April is National Donate Life Month
March 23, 2023Celebrating the Life-Saving Generosity of Organ, Eye & Tissue Donation
During the month of April, LifeGift observes National Donate Life Month (NDLM) and the importance of organ, eye & tissue donation. NDLM is about registering your decision to be a donor and honoring deceased and living donors – recognizing that the generosity of donors makes saving lives through transplantation possible.
More than 104,000 people across the country are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Thousands more people are waiting for life-saving and healing cornea and tissue transplants.
LifeGift will promote the critically important messages of organ and tissue donation/donor registration and also engage our local communities across our social media platforms throughout the month of April.
Social media activities will include:
- Click here to view LifeGift’s 2023 Donate Life Month social media calendar.
- Lighting Up for #DonateLifeMonth: LifeGift has arranged for various buildings, bridges and other structures to light up blue and green for Donate Life Month in Houston, Fort Worth and Lubbock/Amarillo.
- Engaging hospital partners, volunteers, LifeGift team members and donation advocates to post on LifeGift social media channels on significant days during Donate Life Month, including: Donate Life Living Donor Day – April 5th; Blue & Green Spirit Week – starts April 8th and Blue & Green Day – April 14th. Asking individuals to wear their Donate Life t-shirts or green and/or blue attire and post photos on social media.
- The last full week of NDLM is dedicated to children. National Pediatric Transplant Week focuses on ending the pediatric transplant waiting list. Clinical partners share their innovative work and patient stories; donor families whose children have saved and healed lives through organ, eye, & tissue donation are honored, and recipient families share their thanks and celebrate milestones.
Please be sure to join us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram to help us honor donors, recipients, and their families and caregivers. LifeGift also will recognize the clinical teams continuing their dedicated work during this time to help honor the gift of donation and save the lives of those waiting for a second chance at life.
