Texas’ Organ, Eye and Tissue Donor Registry Surpasses 15 Million Registrations
April 2, 2024Donate Life Texas proudly announces a monumental milestone in the state’s commitment to organ, eye and tissue donation. With immense gratitude and Texans’ support, the Glenda Dawson Donate Life Texas Registry has exceeded 15 million registered donors, marking a significant leap forward in saving and improving Texans’ lives through the gift of organ, eye and tissue donation.
This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering generosity and compassion of Texans across the state. By registering as organ donors, individuals have demonstrated their willingness to make a profound impact on the lives of others, offering hope and a second chance at life to those in need.
“We are deeply humbled and grateful for the overwhelming response from the people of Texas,” said Chad G. Carroll, Executive Director of Donate Life Texas. “Surpassing 15 million registered donors is a testament to the spirit of altruism and compassion within our communities.”
Despite this milestone, approximately 10,000 Texans still await a life-saving transplant.
“Since the opportunities for actual donation are quite rare – only one or two deaths out of 1,000 – the demand for life-saving transplants still far outweighs viable organs available,” said Carroll. “Every registration counts immensely since one person can save 8 people’s lives via organ donation and heal and improve the lives of 75 more via eye and tissue donation.”
The 15 million registration mark represents about 60% of eligible Texans who can register.
Organ donation remains a critical component of healthcare, providing hope and healing to countless individuals facing life-threatening conditions. With every registration, Texans are extending a lifeline to those in need and reaffirming their commitment to the well-being of others.
Donate Life Texas encourages all eligible Texans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to discuss their decision with their families. Together, we can continue to make a profound difference in the lives of those awaiting life-saving organ, eye and tissue transplants.
