National Donate Life Month Celebrates Lifesaving Gifts of Transplantation

National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was established by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003. Observed in April, National Donate Life Month supports and encourages Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, LifeGift continued to take a virtual approach on events, including our April Donate Life Month observances. LifeGift continued to promote the important messages of organ and tissue donation/registration and also engaged our local communities through social media postings.

Lighting Up for Donate Life Month

LifeGift arranged for various buildings, bridges and other structures to light up blue and green for Donate Life Month in Houston, Fort Worth and Lubbock.

Houston
On April 16th & 17th, blue and green lights illuminated City Hall, six U.S. 59 arch bridges, Seven Wonders in Sesquicentennial Park, Miller Outdoor Theater, The George R. Brown Convention Center, Partnership Tower and Nora’s Home. Memorial City Complex, Memorial Hermann Southwest, Memorial Hermann Memorial Center Medical Center, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, Houston Methodist Texas Medical Center and Texas Children’s Hospital shined bright on April 16th. Additionally, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center was lit up for the entire month of April.

Fort Worth
The Pier 1 Building – future City Hall, 7th Street Bridge, Avenue of Lights and Pioneer Tower were immersed in blue and green April 15th – 18th. The Ronald McDonald House’s Light of Love Tower was a beacon of blue and green lights on April 16th. Additionally, Cook Children’s Medical Center was lit up through April 18th and the Tarrant County College – Trinity River Campus’ Allan Saxe Waterfall displayed its blue and green for the entire month of April. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Grapevine, Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, Medical City Fort Worth and Texas Health Harris Methodist flew a Donate Life Flag during the entire month of April in observance of NDLM.

Lubbock
Neighborhoods throughout the community were lit up in blue and green during the month of April as well as the Jones AT&T Stadium and “Texas Rising” by Joe O’Connell and Blessing Hancock – Texas Tech University System Public Art Collection.
