What does it mean to be an Ambassador?

A LifeGift Ambassador of Hope (AOH) is a donor family member, transplant recipient, living donor, recipient family member, person waiting for a transplant or a concerned citizen. AOH volunteers educate and inspire the community by sharing information about donation and how to register as a donor on the Donate Life Texas donor registry. An AOH volunteer spreads hope by sharing their personal story and compassionately providing community education.

What are the time commitments for being an Ambassador?

Ambassadors of Hope are required to take part in at least one activity per year educating the community about organ, eye and tissue donation and donor registration. Participation varies based on event and individual preference. LifeGift offers a wide variety of weekly, monthly, or annual volunteer events that can be fulfilled as a team or independently.

What training is provided?

LifeGift requires participation in a one-hour Ambassador of Hope orientation before the first day of volunteering. Upon completion of the orientation, new volunteers are paired with a seasoned volunteer to help guide them through event set up and volunteer protocols.

The LifeGift Ambassador of Hope program offers monthly workshops for Ambassadors on how to write about their personal journey with transplantation and share with the community. LifeGift also offers a monthly workshop on how to recognize and have conversations about the many cultural and religious taboos and misconceptions about organ donation and donor registration in the community. The Ambassador of Hope program offers several opportunities for volunteers to take part in community education panels with LifeGift partners to familiarize themselves with new ideas and innovations in the field of organ donation.
